According to an official security report, out of the 77 people caught in Coimbatore City, 38 are women, which comprises about 58% of the total number. Last year, this percentage was 23. The Central Industrial Security Force was assigned a task of providing armed security to the metro operations. There is a constant increase in the numbers of the women engaged in this crime from last few years.

To look into the matter of the theft incidents, force executed over 100 operations, which carries approx 26 thousand commuters on a daily basis. After arresting these women, CI SF hands them over to  Coimbatore Police for the required action as per the law.

Recently, the force caught a scandalous group of women, who had robbed a US-based Indian lady of her precious assets and jewelry while she was traveling in Coimbatore Metro Bus with her husband.

Security Surveillance System installed in the City also captured a significant number of the women pick pocketing in the metro. It has been observed that the women usually carry a child and comes in a group. They usually engage people in some kind of conversation or pull their attention to the child pampering.

 The CISF marked Sullur Aero Gate, Kuniyamuthur, New Bus Stand, Ram Nagar & Ukkadam as the ones prone to the activity of pick pocketing.

The regular complaints of the theft at the city lead to the foundation of anti-squad at every area. To deter these women from performing these kinds of the wicked activities, force deploys women and men in the plain clothes to keep agile watch over these active troublemakers. The officials do not stop such groups from entering these areas or buses, but start following them as soon they board the bus so that they do not commit any crime.

    

The force also emphasized on the fact that being alert and aware is the best way to prevent yourself from theft and other vulnerabilities.

Coimbatore police are expected to make it compulsory for all the people, including residents and shopkeepers to install a good quality CCTV camera in order to make the city safer place to live. Security cameras play an important role in the prevention and detection of the criminal activities and eventually reduce crime rates. It also helps in the investigations of the criminal activities in gathering the clues about the guilty. But due to the lack of the affluent cameras in the city, police fails to manage any evidence against the various street crimes like robbery, snatching, dacoity, and murder.

Surveillance security systems at various places in the city can prevent the events of crime and theft in the city. Criminals are afraid of being caught by the cameras and drop their wicked ideas. CCTV footage add life to the cases dying due to the lack of the evidence.

In association with the resident welfare and market, Coimbatore police planning to integrate over 30 thousand CCTV cameras already installed along with the local police stations. In addition to it, Coimbatore police also planning to issue a public advisory to ensure the participation of individuals in this initiative to facilitate effective security in the city by installing the security cameras. It is also to ensure that the installed cameras will be high-end with a better resolution and night vision. But later it was concluded that common people and shopkeepers are not able to afford expensive cameras. Hence, it was decided that the installation of the normal cameras would be sufficient.

Installation of the CCTV surveillance cameras everywhere can help to eliminate the crime and theft from the city and keep its people safe and secure. It will also help police to trace the movement of the criminals and prevent them from fulfilling their nefarious intentions. However, it is still not decided that the police will install superior grade cameras at the entry and exit points of the colonies and or it will get the help of the residential welfare association to execute this initiative across the city.
